Design and Displays

Foldable Form Factor: Apple's first book-style foldable smartphone, featuring a Grade 5 titanium frame and a custom hinge built from over 100 precision components.

Inner Display: A 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR flexible AMOLED panel. It features a nano-texture finish to reduce glare and a micro-lens texture that minimizes the visibility of the folding crease.

Outer Display: A 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR screen that offers 90% of the screen area of an iPhone 18 Pro. Both displays share a consistent aspect ratio, feature ProMotion (120Hz LTPO technology), and reach up to 3,000 nits of peak outdoor brightness.

Durability: The front is protected by Ceramic Shield 2, while the back uses the standard Ceramic Shield. The device carries an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.

Performance and Hardware

A20 Pro Chip: Built on a 2nm process, it includes a 6-core CPU, 7-core GPU, and a Dual 16-core Neural Engine. It is paired with 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM.

Vapor-Chamber Cooling: An advanced thermal management system bonds the A20 Pro chip directly to a custom vapor chamber to dissipate heat during multitasking, AI workloads, and gaming, delivering up to 35% better sustained performance than the iPhone 17 Pro.

Connectivity: Features Apple's new C2 cellular modem (eSIM only) and the N1 wireless networking chip, which supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, and Thread.

Storage Options: Available in 256 GB, 512 GB, 1 TB, and 2 TB configurations.

Camera System

Dual Rear Cameras: A 48MP Fusion Main camera with sensor-shift stabilization and a 2x optical-quality crop, plus a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide lens. There is no periscope telephoto lens.

Selfie & FaceTime Cameras: The outer display houses a 12MP Center Stage front camera, while the inner folding display features a hidden 1080p under-display FaceTime camera for uninterrupted viewing.

Foldable-Specific Photography: Features include Duo Preview (shows the subject a live preview on the outer screen), Smart Take (automatically snaps the photo when everyone is ready/posing), and Kid Cue (plays animations on the outer screen to capture a child's attention).

Video: Supports 4K video at 120 fps in Dolby Vision HDR and hands-free 4K time-lapses when the phone is propped up.

Software (iOS 27.1)

Foldable Interface: The Dynamic Island has been redesigned to run vertically along the edge, the Home Screen dock is oriented vertically, and lock screen controls have moved to the sides for easier thumb access. Opening the phone reveals a Split View with two Home Screen pages.

StandBy & Versatility: Sensors detect the angle of the fold, reorienting content dynamically whether it is propped up like a tent, used like a mini laptop, or set sideways as a bedside clock.

Biometrics: Face ID has been removed in favor of Touch ID, which is built into the side button. The device can also be unlocked via an Apple Watch.

Apple Pencil: Both screens will support the USB-C Apple Pencil via a software update later in the year.

Battery and Charging

Dual-Battery Architecture: The device features a 5,400 mAh total capacity split across both halves of the phone, functioning as a single battery.

Battery Life: Apple rates it for up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display, 44 hours on the outer display, and roughly 24 hours of typical mixed use.

Fast Charging: It reaches a 50% charge in about 20 minutes via a wired connection, or 30 minutes using MagSafe.
